Earrings

Just love when girlfriends will do anything for you.  Like modeling some awesome jewelry.  Jamie is wearing the Recylced Glass Bead Earrings.  These earrings are made by the women at Noah’s Ark Mission who are able to work from home.  They no longer have to work 12-14 hour days at the sweatshops like so many in India.  The goal of Noah's Ark Mission is to train their artisans to own their own business, so that they can provide for their family.  The price of these earrings are $16.00 and Trades of Hope has a necklace and bracelet to match too.

I just love these Philippine Capiz Feather Earrings.  They look great on Melissa and are made of capiz,the thin, naturally off-white colored shells of clams. Artisans wash the shells with soap and water, soak the shells in a weak acid solution and some pieces are dyed.  A girl in the Philippines is discriminated against early in life due to culture and customary gender biases. Girls are usually allotted less food than their fathers and brothers, despite their nutritional needs. When money is hard to come by, the boys in the family are given an education and the girls do not attend school. They usually take on an abused and submissive role. The public sees these women as sex objects and stereotypes them as such. But Fair Trade groups are changing that by helping women develop skills to sell their products to the world! Stacey has been such an inspiration to me.  I got involved with Trades of Hope thru a party that Stacey was involved with, although I didn't go.  I knew this was the organization I was to get involved with.  Stacey is wearing the Peru Cream Chandelier  Beaded Earrings.  The Artisans that create these earrings live in the Urubamba Valley in the village of Pisac, Peru. This group started “The Undie Fund” as a way to provide Peruvian children with underwear, shoes, socks, and other clothing essentials. This group also provides school supplies for children as well as blankets and sweaters for the elderly in the community. Nearly 70 percent of women in rural Peru are living in extreme poverty. So the girls quite frankly had no idea what they were about to do, all they knew was that they were able to play with my Woven Reed Bag again.

and no joke, Willow picked Joanna too....at first I thought it was my sister in law Joanna Ingold, and I actually think its Joanna Hughes. SOOO, I need to get with both of these girls to get them some goodies!!  THANK YOU!! 

A tisket a tasket
